Thursday 24th April 2008
The Midlands Hotel in Bradford is hosting an event aimed at transforming catering in Colleges across the UK, the way that Jamie Oliver’s “school dinners” did for pre-16 schools.

The Midland Hotel, part of Conference Leeds, the super convention bureau for Leeds and West Yorkshire is the chosen venue to host Bradford College’s “Healthy College Annual Conference” – a one day event on April 23rd.

Celebrity chef Lesley Waters will be on hand to launch the event. Lesley is a well known face on TV, regularly appearing in Ready Steady Cook, Can’t Cook, Won’t Cook and making guest appearances on Food and Drink and Who’ll Do the Pudding?

More than 200 people are expected to attend the high profile event from Colleges, Primary Care Trusts, Local Authorities, and Community Organisations across the UK. Delegates will be able to participate in nutrition workshops, listen to key speakers and understand more about the importance of health and fitness.

The Midland Hotel is hosting the event in its Princes Ballroom – a spectacular Victorian ballroom which can seat up to 400 theatre style. The Midland Hotel, Bradford was built between 1885 and 1890 by the Midland Railway Company. It was a showpiece for the railway companies northern operations, and is of particular architectural interest, with some of the finest Victorian interiors in the North. Today the hotel has been lovingly restored to its former glamour by owner, Peel Hotels.

Nicola Lockwood, Head of Conference Leeds said;

“We are delighted that this event is being held at the Midland Hotel. This is just one of the many high profile events of this type that we are attracting into the Leeds and West Yorkshire area at the moment. The Midland Hotel offers superb facilities for a conference - the Princes Ballroom is stunning and with its large capacity perfect for events like this.”
