Business Boost as City Centre Hotel Unveils Its "Magnificent seven"
Monday 12th November 2007
LEEDS’ growing appeal as a business tourism destination is being boosted this week by the unveiling of the city centre’s biggest collection of hotel meeting rooms.

The Met Hotel in King Street – part of Harrogate-based Principal Hayley Group - has doubled its capacity for conferences, meetings and training events as part of a £6m modernisation programme across its estate.

The expansion is designed to meet a growing demand for business facilities, not just among ‘home grown’ firms in Leeds, but also major corporate clients from across the UK who are turning to the city to host multi-national events in ever-increasing numbers.

Located in the heart of Leeds’ business district, The Met now boasts 18 meeting rooms – nine of which feature state-of-the-art technology – including seven new purpose-designed conference rooms. The hotel can now cater for everything from one-to-one meetings to conferences for up to 250 delegates.

Businesses from across the city are being given a sneak preview of the new facilities at a series of launch events, after which the hotel will target conference organisers and agencies from across the UK.

General manager Jonathan Pritchard said the development has propelled the 108-year-old hotel into a new era, and added an extra dimension to the lure of Leeds as a business and conference destination.

He said: “Not only have we enhanced our facilities, we have also modernised our services – innovating a new approach to food and refreshments - to match the changing needs of today’s business delegate.

“We are very mindful that people do business today in a very different way to even just a couple of years ago, and we have tailored our services in response to this.

“The new meeting rooms are our ‘magnificent seven’. We are confident that these improvements, coupled with our prime city centre location, put us in prime position for attracting conference trade to complement our 120 bedrooms.”
