46 universities are currently given star ratings for accommodation quality by VisitEngland, but Storm Jameson Court, at The University of Leeds, is the first campus accommodation in the UK to be rated by VisitEngland under the National Accessible Scheme (NAS) – and the building received the highest possible level of accreditation.
Under the rigorous NAS scheme, Storm Jameson Court was found to have “provided for accommodation for all types of mobility impairment fulfilling all the requirements of the scheme, and meeting additional best practice criteria”.
Richard Handscombe, Head of Sales & marketing for conferences and events at the University of Leeds, which are marketed under the MeetInLeeds brand comments “this University is totally committed to providing accessible accommodation, and our newest development, Storm Jameson Court, offered us the opportunity to build in the most advanced accessible facilities. Great for our students, and also a commercially sound decision as shown by our selection by the Canadian Wheelchair Rugby team to host their three training camps ahead of the Olympic Games”.
The 460 bedrooms at Storm Jameson Court include 23 accessible rooms.
