Small gifts to make a big difference at the University of Leeds Tuesday 1st December 2009

Delegates attending conferences at the University of Leeds can now do their bit for charity by buying a souvenir to take home.

In line with the University’s Fairtrade status, ornate handmade silver jewellery – from earrings to bangles – is now being stocked, with all profits going to MySmallShop. The charity supports third world businesses and aims to provide a western market for artisans in the developing world. MySmallShop works with ethical businesses and individuals, which produce good quality, unique products in a sociably responsible way.

Richard Handscombe, Head of Sales and Marketing for the University of Leeds conferencing, events and accommodation said: “We’ve found that most delegates like to take a gift home after a conference, whether it’s for family or themselves and with the University holding Fairtrade status since 2005, MySmallShop seemed like a perfect fit.”

The University of Leeds offers a wide range of services from day meeting rooms for groups as small as four to large residential conferences for up to 550 delegates. It offers residential events, exhibition halls, hospitality and fine dining as well as a comprehensive conference management service.
