Green Fingers for the University of Leeds Tuesday 1st December 2009

Conference and meeting delegates at the University of Leeds will soon be enjoying fresh, organic vegetables and herbs grown by students as part of a new volunteering project.
The University’s conferencing and catering services is supporting the Student Union Allotment Project by buying herbs from the voluntary sustainability group, which helps students gain experience in growing their own food organically.

Bev Kenny, Assistant Director of Catering and Conferencing at the University of Leeds said, “We’re passionate about sourcing quality, local produce, so what could be better than sourcing ingredients grown in the grounds of the University. The project is still in its early stages, but in time we plan to source all of our fresh herbs from the Student Union group, including parsley, basil and coriander, which we’re sure delegates will enjoy.”

The Allotment Project was established earlier this year and is open to students and staff at the University of Leeds who are interested in learning about growing their own food and up-keeping the plot in the University’s grounds.

The University of Leeds offers a wide range of services from day meeting rooms for groups as small as four to large conferences for up to 550 delegates. It also offers residential events, exhibition halls, hospitality and fine dining as well as a comprehensive conference management service.
